In this installation, Csenge explores the perception of time through the lens of displacement and transformation. Drawing parallels between the slow burn of candles and the lives of immigrants, Csenge connects the physical passage of time to the emotional cost of waiting, uncertainty, and instability.
Time is not just a measurable unit but a subjective experience, especially under the pressure of uncertainty and migration. Bureaucratic systems often exacerbate this sense of suspended time, making it difficult for individuals to integrate or find stability. Each candle represents a life, burning at different speed to represent how these systems distort time and delay resolution. Within intimate, anonymous interviews, the project highlights the personal stories of struggle, resilience, and ongoing battles with bureaucracy. Through this dual approach, Csenge hopes to draw attention to the difficulties faced by immigrants, highlighting both their daily struggles and the never-ending process of navigating intricate, dehumanizing procedures.
