“Do you see yonder cloud that's almost in shape of a camel?
Polonius: By the mass, and 'tis like a camel, indeed.
Hamlet: Methinks it is like a weasel.
Polonius: It is backed like a weasel.
Hamlet: Or like a whale?
Polonius: Very like a whale.”
Shakespeare, W. (1996). Hamlet.
Stanisław is fascinated with objects that are misinterpreted or mistaken to be something else. In the time-based collage “Fruaght” he brings them together to encourage the audience to look without expectations.
The basis of this work is the constant redrawing of found material and assembling them into new arrangements. These ever-changing drawings, the tempo, and the spelling mistake in the title of the work all add up to suggest the kind absurdity that is close to the author's approach.
The fluky world of “Fruaght” is using the ambiguities of collected imagery to produce an oblique story full of open ends and unclear compositions. Which parts of “Fraught” are real and which were only a delusion? Do we want to share what we see, or would we rather keep it to ourselves?
