Scent is an important human sense, one that reminds us of the places we have been and experiences we have created. It has always been an important part of the rituals we perform as humans, since the existence of life. Inspired by the topic of metamorphosis, Zoë Ng Gschmaiss has bottled two contrasting smells, one representing life and the other representing death, in order to show the delicate balance.

To explore this work, the viewer is invited to activate their own experience and associations by dripping a few droplets from one or both of the scents from the bottle onto the paper, while reading the given text. The artist hopes that by doing so, the audience will be stimulating their own associations and imaginations regarding the metamorphosis cycle of growth and decay. Surrounding the work are symbols that continue to represent the concept of life and death, in order to be able to fully encapsulate the viewer.
